Alcott

Rooted in Community. Growing With Purpose

For forty-seven years, Alcott has stood as a steady presence in Los Angeles, offering compassionate care grounded in the belief that whole-person wellness begins with understanding and dignity. What started as a small, community-centered effort in Beverlywood has evolved into one of the region’s most trusted nonprofit providers of mental health and supportive housing services.

Alcott’s History

From Humble Beginnings to Countywide Leadership

Founded in 1979, Alcott began as a small residential support program offering day-to-day assistance in a close-knit community setting. As client needs evolved, the organization broadened its focus, incorporating mental health services to support individuals seeking integrated, whole-person care.

When rising housing costs and changes in building ownership reshaped the Westside landscape, Alcott adapted – continuing to deliver mental health services while helping clients remain stably housed across scattered sites in Los Angeles.

Over time, as Los Angeles County expanded efforts to support individuals facing mental health challenges, homelessness, and reentry after incarceration, Alcott once again widened its reach. The organization now provides services across emergency, transitional, and permanent housing settings, including specialized programs designed for residents who benefit from clinical structure, wraparound support, or reentry assistance.

Alcott also serves as the lead agency for the Westside Health Neighborhood—an initiative dedicated to improving awareness of behavioral health services through coordinated efforts with local partners. This role reflects Alcott’s long-standing position as both a service provider and a connector, strengthening access to care throughout the community.

Today, Alcott stands as an established nonprofit offering a blend of mental health treatment, supportive housing, crisis response, and community collaboration. The organization’s steady commitment has shaped its development from a residential program into a leader in person-centered mental health care.
